Say’s Phoebe With Chicks

Late spring and summer is a time when many birds along the Platte River are breeding. So I headed down to the Audubon Center to check on the action. Last year we found a male and female American Redstart at this location. Maybe we could find another this year? Also last year, I found on spot where a Say’s Phoebe had raised some offspring. In the same location, alongside the footpath, I found this Say’s Phoebe perched atop a fence post.

Perhaps this was the same parent bird from last year? Or maybe this is one of the offspring? Anyway I decided to move on down the path to capture this Phoebe against a darker background before the bird flew.

Later, on returning back to the parking lot, this Phoebe and its mate were foraging among the bushes. So I looked for a nest. There were two chicks were hollering for food, so I quickly made the following image before the parents returned.

So you wonder, did I see that Redstart? Yes, I did, and some Hummingbirds, Warblers, Wrens and Pewees. But I found the Say’s Phoebe and the nest was fun to find.
