A few weeks ago, some five or six White-Breasted Nuthatches visited our front yard. This included parents and recent fledged birds. When I heard their excited calls, I rushed to get a camera before they moved on to other trees. By the time I returned, only two birds remained; the others flew to other trees. The Nuthatch below, had just found a bug and was busy feeding.

These Nuthatches typically forage by moving down and up trees, in search of bugs and other insects to feed upon. I followed the second Nuthatch as it worked its way down the tree.

When a group of these Nuthatches are working a tree, they typically call out chattering to each other.

Periodically, this Nuthatch kept looking up, keeping an eye out for danger.

Soon, it was time to move to another tree. We typically see these Nuthatches throughout the year. What fun to see and hear all these birds, especially with their offspring, and in our yard!
