August is typically a month in summer when we do not see many birds. However, this last weekend, we heard reports of lots of shorebirds at Chatfield State Park. So we headed down to Chatfield to see what we could find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from many Kildeer, we found two sandpipers; a Baird’s and a Spotted. Too far away, so no pictures today. I did work my way around part of the reservoir at Chatfield. When I passed the parking lot, I found some House Finches. A male House Finch was perched on the fence around the parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n

I really liked the backlighting on this Finch — especially the rim lighting the left side of the bird. There was a chatter close by, where several Female House Finches where busy feeding on one of the bushes.<\/p>\n\n\n

This female was busy feeding on one of the branches.<\/p>\n\n\n

After feeding, I captured another image of this bird.<\/p>\n\n\n

Down close to the Platte River inflow, several juvenile Wood Ducks were swimming in the reservoir. Here I captured a single wood duck in the following image.<\/p>\n\n\n

A Northern Flicker that had just perched in one of the trees close to the edge of the reservoir. Here is one image captured just before the Flicker took flight again.<\/p>\n\n\n

We have several Flickers that visit the feeders at home, so I don’t often make images of Flickers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
