Snow from that big snow storm has started to thaw. These cones have lied down to rest.

Sleeping Cones
The snow has melted in the gardens to reveal underlying textures. Patterns come to life when rendered in monochrome.

Adjacent to the station is a recently completed office building. This always looks blue. The building is actually silver but reflects the blue sky. This morning there was a hint of clouds remaining.

Blue Building and Blue Sky
The thaw and freeze of the snow caused ice to form as puddles of water froze in depressions. Patterns in the ice are always interesting.

This week, we had one of our coldest days of the year. Ok, the year was only 7 days old! I commute to work on the light rail system. By the parking garage at DU, several bicycles are parked overnight, or perhaps, earlier in the morning. It had snowed during the night leaving the bicycles covered with a layer of snow.

Bicycle In The Snow, DU Station
The bike would have been chilly to ride.

A Chilly Ride!
Just by the Arapahoe/Village Center station are these fountains. They have been in operation for a just a few weeks. During the winter, the pressure was reduced, probably to reduce the spray and ice formation. There have been a few days when the fountains were totally iced up.

Fountains, Village Green
This morning, the water jets picked up the color of the rising sun.
Later in the day, on the return trip, I noticed the patterns cast by the colored panels of the benches. I don’t often see these patterns. I made this image seconds before the train pulled into the station.

The final image from New Year’s day was made just after leaving the Platte River. There are several old buildings, constructed of brick and mortar, in the Denver metro area. I spotted an old factory with a tall chimney that showed some promise. The building was not easily accessible… another time maybe. Along the way, I found this “Stop” sign nearby an auto body shop.

Please STOP... or else.
Perhaps there is a message here?

The New Year’s day shoot later saw me down by the Platte River. The geese (Canada) got there before me.

The geese got here first.
This leaf got crushed, but survived the ordeal. The geese were no where to be seen.

Crushed by the geese.
So I decided to leave my mark in the snow before the geese came back.

So I left my mark!
Here is another reminder of a Colorado winter’s day.

So Project-52 has started. Today was a typical Colorado winter sunny day. We still have snow and ice lying around from the Christmas snow storm. This afternoon, I meandered down to the Englewood light rail parking lot and wandered around the city center. Some signs of New Year’s celebration soon appeared.

Remains of New Year's revelry.
And here is the rest of the party!

Here are the missing fragments.
Wandering around some more… and found these sculptures.

Big SLICES of water melon?
Right up close, these pebbles were crushed.

Crushed by the slice.
Let’s see what’s hiding behind.

Behind the slice.
Exploring some more, I found this sculpture, swaying gently in the slow breeze.

Blue Eyes.
Here is another view.

Blue eyes in the sky.
Back to the light rail station. Here there are several bike storage lockers and bike rack.

Where's my wheel?
Looks like someone is missing a wheel. That one bike is not getting very far. Close by, an interesting feature was revealed.

Three buttons.
I spent more time photographing this afternoon. That can wait until another time. That’s all for now.

Best wishes to everyone for 2010.
This morning, Angela asked “I wonder what 2010 will be like?” To which I replied “It will be a Fun Year!” She commented that “That is a positive outlook”.

This blog is my New Year’s resolution for 2010 to challenge myself. The prime objective is for me to contribute to the community and to become more engaged in photography. There will be a variety of subjects covered relating to fine art photography.
I had thought of doing a 365 project for the year. This will be a little difficult to realize. I don’t shoot everyday. Also, since I shoot RAW, it is difficult to find time to do a JPeg conversion on a daily basis.
Project 52, where my objective is a photograph a week, is a more realistic objective.
